About Kourtney

Kourtney came to yoga as a working actor/dancer with a day job as an account executive at a Minneapolis advertising agency.  A Type A master multi-tasker, she had a very busy brain and an injured, stressed out body. Kourtney took her first yoga class over lunch hour between client meetings. She was first drawn to the physical practice of yoga — its strength and grace.  When Kourtney moved from Minnesota to Los Angeles in 2002 to pursue her MFA, her dedication to her yoga practice deepened.  She soon discovered a deeper connection to her breath — the subtle way it was guiding her into being more present, the way in which it was unlocking injuries and asking her to move with patience and compassion. Over time, she began to find the ability to release the chatter in her mind, surrender old energy and be still with herself.  The clarity and peace that followed her home from class began to influence every aspect of her life.  Kourtney’s practice allowed her to heal her body, honestly look at how she was spending time and energy, and get quiet enough to hear her truth. As she opened up to The Flow, she was slowly guided on to a new path.

She began teaching yoga in 2006, and feels privileged to be able to share a practice that has brought such transformation to her own life.  Kourtney brings thirteen years of yoga practice, twenty years of dance and movement studies, Alexander Technique and Laban to her teaching. A longtime student of metaphysics and spiritual development, she is passionate about the integration of body, mind and soul.  Kourtney is intuitively guided to help clear and heal the energetic body.  She weaves Reiki and other energetic healing modalities into her work.

It is Kourtney’s intention to always create a space that is open and accepting, empower people to go deeper and help cultivate a healing vibration.  She is known for her playful spirit, her safe, creative  and sweat-inducing sequencing, beautifully eclectic playlists and  her big smile as she challenges a class to explore its edge.

Kourtney currently teaches public classes at YogaHop and Yogis Anonymous, as well as offering private  and semi-private yoga/energy work and on-site corporate classes. She teaches yoga for Get Fit Go’s school program serving underprivileged teens in low-income neighborhoods. Kourtney has also taught at Equinox Fitness Clubs, UCLA and Body Wellness.

Kourtney is grateful for the many brilliant teachers and mentors who have crossed her path.  A few among them are Mynx Inagatsugu, Annie Carpenter, Shiva Rea, Brad Keimach, Ally Hamilton, Matthew Reyes, Jean-Louis Rodrigue, Ann Bergeron, Tom Orth and Jeanne Daniels.

Kourtney holds a BFA in Theatre and Dance summa cum laude from the University of Minnesota Duluth and an MFA in Acting from UCLA.  She has worked in theatre, film, television, fitness media and has been seen in several national commercials. She has also taught movement for actors, acting, voice and speech and has directed children’s theatre.

Kourtney is currently an Ambassador for lululemon athletica.
